Bringing New Hope to Improvement of Hazy Air Pollution

A research team led by Prof. YU Jianzhen, Professor at Division of Environment and Sustainability (ENVR) and Department of Chemistry, unveiled a first-in-kind study of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and its role in the rise and fall of airborne sulfates in hazy air pollution, offering policymakers new insights into ways to tackle smoggy weather.

The program “Big Data and Public Policy: Opportunities, Challenges, and Strategies” organized by Leadership and Public Policy (Executive Education) (LAPP) were held on 10-11 October 2019. It was a customized program for Civil Service Training and Development Institute (CSTDI). It is believed that the rise of big data and evidence based governance practices have the potential to transform government. Six speakers shared their thoughts on several training sessions on big data topics, including state-of-the-art software technologies, information resources management, and good practices required to effectively employ big data in the public sector.

Risk Perception of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Indian Construction Industry

Division of Public Policy (PPOL) organized a seminar on “Prospective Longevity: A New Vision of Population Aging” on 10 October 2019. Prof. Sergei SCHERBOV, Deputy Program Director of the World Population Program (POP) at International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) shared the concept of “prospective age”, a forward-thinking measure of our remaining lifespan. The study helps to generate better demographic estimates, which inform better policies.
