HKUST Symposium Examines Risk Management and Business Intelligence Issues from Academic, Banking, Asset Management and Consultancy Perspectives

The 2nd Symposium on Risk Management and Business Intelligence 2010 was held on 15 May 2010. The Symposium featured a wide range of speakers from the academic, banking, asset management and consultancy sectors on the future development of the Risk Management (RM) and Business Intelligence (BI) industries. It drew over 300 audiences mainly from the business and academic sectors.

T&M-DDP Executive Forum Series: China Construction Bank (Asia) Senior VP & CIO Shares Strategies and Challenges for IT in the Banking Industry

Mr Michael Leung, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer of China Construction Bank (Asia), delivered a speech on “Strategies and Challenges for IT in the Banking Industry” for the Technology and Management Executive Forum at the InterContinental Grand Stanford Hotel on March 4, 2010. About 180 current and prospective students of Dual Degree Program in Technology and Management participated in this exclusive event with corporate partners, faculty and alumni.

Dual Degree students participate in a unique international business plan competition in London

The competition brought together 41 top students from US, UK, Brazil, Korea and Hong Kong to work on Green Business proposals on "Building a more sustainable Olympics London 2012". Students from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign (UIUC), London South Bank University (LSBU), University of Sao Paulo (USP), Seoul National University (SNU) and HKUST Dual Degree Program in Technology and Management formed teams with each comprising students from different universities.

Inauguration of Division of Environment and Distinguished Lecture by Thomas L. Friedman

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) today (7 January 2010) officially inaugurated its Division of Environment with an inaugural lecture by three-time Pulitzer Prize winner Mr Thomas Friedman entitled “Reflections on Our Hot, Flat and Crowded World”.

The inaugural ceremony was officiated by the Secretary for the Environment The Hon Edward Yau, Nobel Laureate in Chemistry Sir Harold Kroto, Hang Lung Properties Chairman Mr Ronnie Chan, Civic Exchange CEO Dr Christine Loh, HKUST President Tony F Chan, Mr Thomas Friedman, and Acting Head of Division of Environment Prof Chak Chan.

Lively orientation sets the pace for Hong Kong's first Risk Management and Business Intelligence undergraduates

A lively Orientation Session for students of Risk Management and Business Intelligence Program was held on 19 August 2009. Students at the event enjoyed the chance to get to know their classmates and the professors who would be teaching and inspiring their learning over the next three years. The founding RMBI class of 26, all with strong academic backgrounds, was selected from more than 1000 applicants.

Dual Degree Student Gains Overseas Study Experience in Harvard University

Matthew Luk Ho Ming, Year 3 student of Dual Degree Program in Technology and Management, was accepted by the world renowned Harvard University in the US as Visiting student for the academic year 2009/10 which will definitely be a valuable and exciting experience for him.
