Crisis Management and Lessons Learnt: From SARS, to Excess Lead in Water Supply, to Lamma Island Vessel Collision Incident

The Policy Dialogue Series “Crisis Management and Lessons Learnt: From SARS, to Excess Lead in Water Supply, to Lamma Island Vessel Collision Incident” was held on 14 April 2019. Professor Anthony CHEUNG, former Secretary for Transport and Housing in Hong Kong, discussed and examine HKSAR government’s ability on crisis management, with the examples of SARS in 2003, Lamma Island Vessel Collision incident in 2012 and the Lead/heavy metal in drinking water incident in 2015.

Joint Seminar - Dissent on Aadhaar, Big Data meets big brother

Through studying the Aadhaar (identity system in India), the seminar argues that the use of Aadhaar is not solely used to ensure high-efficiency of Indian’s welfare system, but also contributing to the data-mining in India. Participants who concerned about a healthy democracy in India, students and scholars of political science, law and public policy may interested in joining the seminar.

RMBI Symposium 2019

The Symposium on Risk Management and Business Intelligence 2019 gathered over 280 students, scholars and industry leaders at HKUST on 23 March 2019. The theme of this year is FinTech, a very hot topic in finance and innovation fields. Speakers from industries of banking and investment, regulatory body, consultancy, artificial intelligence and telecommunications shared their views on the latest development and issues of FinTech from the perspectives of risk management and business intelligence.

Long Service Award 2019

The annual Long Service Award Presentation Ceremony was held on 29 March 2019 to express appreciation and recognition to long-serving faculty and staff members who have dedicated their hard work to contribute to the University for at least 20 years. This year, HKUST presented awards to 43 colleagues.

IPO Outstanding Community Service Award 2018-2019

To recognize Interdisciplinary Programs Office (IPO) students who have demonstrated outstanding service to the university community and/or the community beyond the campus and foster students’ commitment in serving the society, IPO Outstanding Community Service Award is given to a maximum of 3 IPO students every year. This year, the Award was presented to 3 students at the Kick-off Ceremony of HKUST Global Days of Changemaking 2019 on 12 April 2019.

RMBI Students Joined Shanghai Study Tour for Financial Talents

Two students of Risk Management and Business Intelligence (RMBI) Program were selected to participate in the Cross-boundary Study Tour for Post-secondary Financial Talents 2018, jointly launched by the Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau of HKSAR Government and the Shanghai Municipal Government Financial Services Office with the aim of strengthening the co-operation in the training and exchange of financial talents of both sides.
