The Department of Asian and Policy Studies (APS) of The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) and the Division of Public Policy (PPOL) of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), have co-organized the “Policy Dialogue Series” featuring Professor Anthony CHEUNG as the principal speaker, who is currently Research Chair Professor of Public Administration in APS and an Adjunct Professor of PPOL and the former Secretary for Transport and Housing (2012-17) and former President of EdUHK (2008-12). The latest seminar on the theme of “The Impact of COVID-19 Pandemic: Crisis Management, and Governance and Policy Priorities” was held online on 14 November 2020.

Some 40 million people have been infected by the Covid-19 pandemic worldwide so far, resulting in over 1.1 million deaths. Apart from creating a severe public health crisis, the pandemic has also caused serious social and economic disruptions. Government capacity and leadership in crisis management is under major test in different countries and territories, and performance varies. In the seminar, Prof. Christine LOH, Chief Development Strategist of Division of Environment and Sustainability (ENVR) and Prof. Donald LOW, Professor of Practice in Public Policy of PPOL,  shared their thoughts and discussed (1) Hong Kong’s situation compared to other places; (2) Government strategies, policy priorities and remedial measures in Hong Kong and (3) The exposed problems and deficiencies and the lesson learnt.
